IOSHA, not federal OSHA, inspects private job sites in Indianapolis. OSHA notes that IOSHA adopts all federal OSHA standards except excavations, where Indiana has its own standard, so trench crews should check the Indiana rule rather than relying only on the federal text.
Indiana 811 tickets expire at 11:59 p.m. 20 days after Indiana 811 receives the notice (IC 8-1-26-16), so longer jobs need a new ticket.
If a dig site can't be described by street address, legal description or highway mile marker or cross street, Indiana law requires the excavator to white-line it with white paint, flags or stakes, or by electronic means (IC 8-1-26-16 and 8-1-26-11.5). That matters on undeveloped sites without a street address.
